I can't speak for other refactoring efforts, but mine has ground to a halt. Not to sound too negative, but the JSynthLib codebase is a complete mess. Broken encapsulation, a lack of anything approaching a genuine API for implementing a synth driver and - most fundamentally - the object model for patches, banks and so forth is wrong. It's been a useful learning exercise to poke through the code, but I'm at the point where I feel it would be best to take the lessons learnt and start from scratch. This is not something I have the time to do, so like the MIDIBox guy, I'm taking a closing look at alternatives that will hopefully have a better foundation for just adding a new synth driver than JSynthLib currently does.
