JTS supplies the DouglasPeuckerSimplifier and the
TopologyPreservingSimplifier in the simplify package. Currently there
are no smoothing algorithms provided, but that certainly seems like a
good thing to add. Of course, the question is - which one? There are
quite a few in common use.
I don't see how Node & Dissolve would provide a smoothing effect.
