I took a tour of the code and found that the class is only used by the FastNodingValidator. The FastNodingValidator use seem to really only need to find the very first intersection. Enough that the GEOS port of JTS's "InteriorIntersectionFinder" is called "SingleInteriorIntersectionFinder". Was that the original name in JTS too ? (1.8, circa 2006).
