This is an interesting little thread. I personally share the view that aliens represent a kind of post-modern religious phenomenon. As such similar to the Diana cult.
>I have seen television programs, especially Babylon Five, where the >alien, even before his qualities are known, is accorded equality with >human beings and equal rights. Those who question it are treated as >racists. It's a good moral lesson hammered into our skulls. The alien What's even worse is the cloying morality of "Star Trek" - political parables with clever didactic methods. Mostly yuk! Of course the aliens in both series are not really very alien at all. Nor are the "greys" or whatver are meant to be kidnapping people. Neither are angels or devils. All of which strengthens the theory that these are not much more than cultural products projected onto the gaps and deficiencies of scientistic culture. The aliens in "Alien" were a bit different. Those in "ID4" were dreadful, like the film. Enough of Aliens.
