Greetings: I would like to point to what I think is a clear link between 15 & 16 and give a few reasons why I think the text though enigmatic is not entirely elusive.
First I see a conection between Kreuzweg and Historische wandlung. In 14 it is a point of forshadowing the meaning of fate and crossroads in 15. EJ gives some metaphors for the nature of change within the scope of fate in 14. In 15 it becomes not the moment at which we find ourselves on the threshold to change. Then I would like to point out that although Kreuzweg might mean stations of the cross, I dont feel that meaning has a parallel in this text. Instead I would put forward that Kreuzwege are those points at which a desicion becomes necessary and thus connected with change. The line then with Wir trafen uns... Could this then be We have often already found ourselves there. in a loose translation? If so it is a point in any case that we encounter again and again, both collectively and as individuals. So wir could be read in the broader sense. When he speaks about jeder Punkt here, I believe it might be the signs that lead up to the change itself. At this point it is fate, (Which as always playing a great role in EJs work and life.) which has brought us to the crossroads. And the indications along the way give meaning and indications to the coming change and can help guide the choice. That is for those who are aware. I must agree though that we are certainly dealing with the Zeit Mauer. It is one of the major themes of the latter work. It also finds expression in a saying When we die, we wake up. Just to add something to Guenters two points in his notes. Thanks Guenter for the notes. Best wishes
