I've been smittin with Confluence and JIRA from those Atlassian folks,
but now I think they and a handful of others ( Eclipse, Intellij) are
changing how we think about software. If there is an Open API, then the
product can be extended in ways the company never imagined, or might
have imagined but didn't have resources to do.

For example: I just noticed that a chap has released an Eclipse plug-in
and standalone rich-client for editing pages in Confluence - based on
the open web-service-based API.

"Welcome to TimTam, The Crunchy, Chocolate Coated, Java GUI Editor for
Confluence."
http://timtam.codehaus.org/

Maybe the web-browser will return to being used primarily for BROWSING
and 'real' apps will be used again for interactive stuff. Oh happy day.
:-)
