I have created a product for my company that provides these features. We utilizes a cocoon type framework, but I also included a servlet filter to ensure the updated file was xml (beware of cut-and-paste from Microsoft.) Just remember, your file must be XHTML compliant otherwise your xsl may choke or you may see strange thing in the html output file.
