The Sun JDK 1.4.2 betas seem to be just fine with it. I've not tested
with 1.4.1 just yet.

1.3.x is out of the question.

IBM is working on support for NPTL in their Java releases. Expect that
later this year.

Required? No. But in order to use older JDKs, you have to tell glibc
to use the older thread model, which degrades performance somewhat.

For the record, I've been using the jpackage.org nosrc RPMs to build JDK
packages for my RHL 9 boxes. Works like a champ.
