To a certain extent this move is a threat to Java. Not only does the popularity of a particular technology with the public color everyday speech, but the view of the hobby programmer often reaches management. I remember sitting in a meeting with senior management about a project's schedule, and the V.P. of Technology, a non-programmer, wanted to know why a project was taking so long when he could write a program in an afternoon in VB while watching the superbowl.
