Service Data Objects

presented by Greg Ackerman

*Monday, July 19th, 2004 *
*6:30 PM - 9:00 PM*
*MCNC Auditorium*
3021 Cornwallis Road
Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

Abstract:
Service Data Objects (SDO) is a new jointly-submitted specification by IBM and
BEA which attempts to fill the gap of providing a unified programming model for
heterogeneous data sources, with support for connected and disconnected
recordsets, unified support for both static and dynamic data API's, support for
tools and frameworks, and a better capability to decouple application code from
data access code. It is not meant to replace lower-level data API's, specs, or
frameworks such as JDBC, EJB, JDO, or Hibernate, but to unify the data access
layer and improve Java programmer productivity and the capabilities of the J2EE
platform. The SDO spec is currently in the Java Community Process and being led
by IBM and BEA.
