I think it's a poor choice to use a command named "lxc" to manipulate lxd containers if they're different from lxc containers. e.g. lxc-list won't show 'em. Which is one way that silently translating lxc -> lxd could poke users in the eye; they may run lxc-manipulating commands later and be confused. A warning would probably make sense.
