No. Read (carefully) http://docs.julialang.org/en/latest/manual/faq/#how-do-abstract-or-ambiguous- fields-in-types-interact-with-the-compiler and the section after that. Those considerations apply whether you're using a Dict or a type. When you could choose either, a type should be faster (although you may not always be able to see it, depending on your application, because a properly-typed Dict is also fast). --Tim
