Numerical computing with javascript is my day job: https://www.desmos.com/. I got interested in this whole saga because our unit tests started failing. In general, I think it's actually a ton of fun, but sometimes it's fun because of the challenge of "how do I do this well without any of the tools or infrastructure I'm used to (e.g. blas...)."
