Couldn't find anyone else with this error, so presumably it was something
idiosyncratic to my system.

Anyhoo just ran Pkg.update() and got this error:

julia> Pkg.update()

INFO: Updating METADATA...

error: insufficient permission for adding an object to repository database
.git/objects

fatal: failed to write object

fatal: unpack-objects failed

ERROR: failed process: Process(`git pull -q`, ProcessExited(1)) [1]

restarting with: sudo julia

fixed the issue and Pkg.update() now runs fine even with julia started
without sudo, but not sure how/why this would have happened now, I don't
remember ever running julia as root before. Issue existed using both Julia
0.3.0 release and after upgrading to 0.3.1 release. I have been using
ijulia a bit lately and may have added some packages there for the first
time, but it wasn't running as root I don't believe.

I guess I'm more posting this for others that may see the same issue, so no
need to reply, but if someone can scratch my curiosity's itch then that
would be most welcome :)
