As far as I know, parallel HDF5 (at least the distributed version I'm familiar with) requires MPI. I don't have experience with the "shared" parallel write/read in HDF5. It seems to me that implementing pHDF5 would require MPI.jl as a dependency - is this actually true (can someone with more HDF5 knowledge comment)?
