Well, if you want to be truly paranoid you can apply something like
"Clean room design" [1]. This is how the BSD community has
"liberated" some GPL drivers. Then again, if you looked at MIT code
(which is permissive) you only need to provide attribution, as in
"This work contains code that was in part inspired by X". Yet again,
if you only glanced at some code and it is unlikely that anyone will
ever know that you did, it is really up to you and conscience/common
sense to determine if the level of inspiration really warrants a
mention in the first place.
