Woop woop! A tremendous congratulations to everybody involved!
As others have said, this is a really great release. There are many great improvements in this release over 0.3, but I think @generated functions <https://github.com/JuliaLang/julia/pull/7474> and smart array indexing <https://github.com/julialang/julia/pull/10525> are good contenders to be my favorites (there are a few other related pull requests too, for both features). Generated functions open up a host of possibilities to write performant code in ways that just weren’t possible before, and smart array indexing really makes it easy to extend Julia’s rich type system and make good use of multiple dispatch. As a long-time lurker on various lists and github issues, I’ve been following some of the discussions about changes that didn’t make it into this release, and that makes me really excited about Julia’s future. 0.4.0 is a big step forward from previous releases, but this is by no means the end of the road. There are plenty of dancing unicorns yet to be discovered ;) Upward and onward! // T On Friday, October 9, 2015 at 2:54:53 PM UTC+2, Randy Zwitch wrote: By building from the release branch, I was robbed of all the excitement! :) > > HQSML-146932:julia rzwitc200$ julia > > *_* > > *_** _ **_**(_)**_** | A fresh approach to technical > computing* > > *(_)** | **(_)* *(_)** | Documentation: > http://docs.julialang.org <http://docs.julialang.org>* > > * _ _ _| |_ __ _ | Type "?help" for help.* > > * | | | | | | |/ _` | |* > > * | | |_| | | | (_| | | Version 0.4.1-pre+3 (2015-10-09 10:34 UTC)* > > * _/ |\__'_|_|_|\__'_| | Commit d2ace40* (0 days old release-0.4)* > > *|__/ | x86_64-apple-darwin14.5.0* > > > > Great job everyone! > > > > On Friday, October 9, 2015 at 8:38:16 AM UTC-4, Eric Forgy wrote: >> >> Congrats guys.
