The Oxford English Dictionary gives two definitions to the word "sexualize":

   1. To attribute sex or gender to (a person or thing); to endow with male
   or female characteristics.
   2. To make (a person or thing) sexual; to endow with erotic nature or
   character.

The supporting quotations in the OED make clear that the editor wanted to
differentiate between usage of this word with and without erotic or sensual
connotations.

The second sense of "sexualize" as applied to the Julia programming
language is clearly not permitted by our community standards. Since many
people do not clearly distinguish between the two senses of the word, we
have decided to make a conscious effort to also avoid the first sense of
the word, to the best extent possible.

I hope this post clarifies our intention regarding the choice of wording of
our community standards, and we welcome all community support to provide an
inclusive and diverse environment for free and open source software
development.
