My Dad had a pretty severe work related accident and will no longer be able to work in the construction industry. He will have some of his education costs taken care of if he wants to retrain for another career.
I have talked him into attending a 2-year GIS program here in California, which he hope to start in the spring of 2007. In the meantime, he is eager to learn, so I've decided to start him on a little project using OpenJUMP! This means I will be taking some time away from OpenJUMP-Ex to learn more about the OpenJUMP everyone is currently using, and possible adding little enhancements that my Dad will need for his project. I downloaded and installed the latest nightly build of OpenJUMP yesterday, and here are a couple of questions that I had: [1] Is there currently a way to have a layer with stand-alone or independent text labels? Is anyone working on this feature? [2] Is there an easy way to link a photo to a feature? (In ESRI this is called hotlinking.) I think I will start with these two tasks if they are not currently being implemented. At any rate, I am still working on OpenJUMP-Ex, but I will have a reason to spend some more time with the current version of our program now. Hopefully I won't be too much of a bother. Landon P.S. - I am sending a beginners book on Java programming to my Dad along with OpenJUMP. When he gets the package I am going to have him subscribe to the user list. I think he will be able to help with some of the admin tasks, and we may get him slinging a little code. I'll let you guys know when he is subscribed so you can introduce yourselves and welcome him to our community. (Remember he's an old guy, and new to this whole GIS thing!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
