The short answer is Magic!

The long answer is where I could not find an extension point I had to go
and duplicate the code in my plugin and then replace the existing tools
with new ones. If this stuff gets integrated then I'm going to try and
make it extensible so people can swap in and out parts if they want to
build a custom open jump solution
