I'm live in Brazil, and I speak portuguese. My english is bad, sorry about
that. My interesting by Google Summer of Code is recent. I study in Federal
University of Goiás <http://www.ufg.br/>, making Science Computer. I work in
Laboratory of Image Processing and Geo-processing
(LAPIG)<http://www.lapig.iesa.ufg.br/>.
We make a lot of projects for many Institutions (Bank of Brazil,
Conservation International, NASA and others) utilizing GIS softwares, free
softwares and proprietary softwares. But we try a migration of all softwares
that Laboratory for free software and hope you help us in that mission, all
right !?
In last weekend, I submit one interesting idea with help two Doctors
Professor (Laerte Guimarães
Ferreira<http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%2522Laerte+Guimar%25C3%25A3es+Ferreira%2522&btnG=Pesquisar&meta=>and
Nilson
Clementino
Ferreira<http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%2522Nilson+Clementino+Ferreira%2522&btnG=Search>).
That idea propose a implementation of a graphical modeling tool for
processing geographic data with the Open Jump in Java.
We hadn't any experience witch OPEN JUMP, but me and professor Nilson see
the program and became use for a little bit time. He had these idea because
of extension for gvSIG call SEXTANTE. That extension make graphics models
for processing geographic data, but it have much problems. The idea propose
a better implementation for that tool for Open Jump, correcting many
problems. For example the SEXTANTE has few tools for geoprocessing and some
tools natives of OPEN JUMP can't be insert in any models. Besides not having
input parameters for the models. If you construct the model, it processing
only the image you put. For processing other image you must change the
models. You understand ?
What we want is make another tool graphics models better then SEXTANTE. We
can use same class or ideas of SEXTANTE, because it's free software. I thing
that is a good idea and a excellent propose.
My Java programming experience is good. But a know few conceptions of
softwares GIS. I ingresses in LAPIG now and I want know more in that area,
because I thing these softwares (GIS free softwares) is the future. I love
free softwares. Me and my university friends minister a course of basic
Informatics which Linux for community. I only use Linux and free softwares
and I tried a migration of free softwares in LAPIG. That propose is a
principal motivation for us.
Thanks for attention,
Leandro Leal
