I am actually unfamiliar of how long your project should last. But I 
woudl suggest that you do reading papers the first 3-4 weeks (at 
least).. and that is not that much compared to course work on a 
university. More in the next 2 days (I have a presentation tomorrow).

a well thought concept [also written], than you have already done a big step
