If you cloned the task by creating a new layer manager etc around an existing feature collection it may work for file based data where the file is loaded into memory, it would not work so well for a database connection as it loads data on the fly and caches it using the BBOX of the viewport window. To get this to work with the two viewport windows would require some serious changes to the code I would think.
