ok.. for me Word would be fine [I really like the track changes mode] :)

Latex is not that difficult - but it takes some weeks for starters and 
hand full of good examples. It is like programming JUMP: having good 
code examples helps to achieve what is wanted.

Actually what I did for my thesis was to write everything in Word (also 
due to the available English grammar and spelling check) and at the very 
end after the copy editing by others I converted everything to Latex 
using TeXnicCenter & MiKTeX (a German distribution, but in English). The 
images have been prepared with Illustrator and Adobe Acrobat.
