your ideas on what you would want to work sound good to me.
Important for us is, that you start with the things that (i) you feel 
most comfortable with, (ii) give you not a difficut start, and (ii) that 
are useful for you. Every contribution (documention or plugin) is 
welcome! And if there is a certain amount of interest and make sense a 
new development can be integrated into the official OpenJUMP. If we need 
to modifiy the core for your developments then you would need to post a 
detailed message saying what must be done and why, and at least 2 core 
developers need to agree on a change to the core.

In case you want write access to the SVN, that is possible too - but we 
would review first 1-2 plugins that you have writen, i.e. see some 
sample code to assess your programming skills.
