Hi,

It works. It is slower with our JPEG2000 images than with ECW images but I
would guess that it is due to ECW-JPEG2000 driver itself. Because folks perhaps
do not have JPEG2000 images for testing I put my test protocol into the net so
anybody can look at the screen captures.
http://latuviitta.org/documents/OpenJUMP_with_JPEG2000.pdf

The document speaks about JPEG2000 but everything works similarly with ECW.
Probably with other supported image formats too but I have not tried. Image
layer manager has been kind of a hidden treasure for me.

There used to be a free utility "ECW JPEG 2000 Compressor 7.0" by ER Mapper
which could be used for compressing image files up to a size of 500 MB when
uncompressed. If somebody should have it available I am pretty sure it will
generate the most speedy JPEG2000 files for OpenJUMP because both
compress/uncompress would then use the same SDK.

I made a test image with that compressor and here are some parameters taken
from Kakadu kdu_show viewer:
Cycc=yes
Clayers=1
Cuse_sop=no
Cuse_eph=yes
Corder=LRCP
Clevels=8
Ckernels=W5X3
Cuse_precincts=yes
Cprecincts={128,128},{128,128},{128,128},{128,128},{128,128},{128,128},{128,128},{128,128},{64,64}
Cblk={64,64}

With those parameters it should be possible to make pretty similar JPEG200
images with other tools than ECW-JPEG2000. With one 10000x10000 pixel image I
can not visually feel any difference. I am right now converting a 85 image test
set with a licensed ER Mapper Image Compressor 7.2 for comparing ECW-JPEG2000
and Kakadu-JPEG2000 but it will take a few hours. I will report if I find some
remarkable difference in speed or general usability.
