Currently, you have to rename the lizardtech utilities to their windows equivalent .exe names in order for the plugin to work. According to OJ the merge developers it was possible to compile it for Linux too (it was working only with Windows). It would be a possibility to explore as gdal can handle MrSID and other raster types. And there are libraries for linux and MacOSX.
