Nice idea.
There are two pages describing the format in the JUMP User Guide :

The format is quite simple. For someone familiar with XML, exporting a 
file with all
possible types of geometries (7 types) and all possible types of 
attributes (5 types
excluding geometry) should be enough to understand 99% of the format.
