Jukka, There is a very brief description in http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/jump-pilot/index.php?title=Tools stating that similar uses a Hausdorff distance. I checked the code : two geometries are similar if they are contained in the buffer of each other (uses a distance parameter)
