GR is quite usable on a single RE system, both as a helper and as a restarter. Its GRES/NSR that is not supported unless dual Res are present.
A dual RE machine can use GR to support both RE failure and routing restart. On a single RE machine only the latter is covered with GR, for obvious reasons.
