You nailed it,
on that last sentence - to avoid this "weakest link in the chain" limit, that's 
where conversation-based MAC learning using FabricPath or learning MAC 
addresses via control plane like in EVPN or VXLAN with EVPN CP or ESADI in 
TRILL comes handy (cause in reality there's never a need for all SWs to learn 
all MAC addresses).
