Hello, I am having the same problem. HTML export is beautiful.  PDF export 
is a mess.  I compare this to using R markdown in RSTUDIO which generates 
perfect PDF files.   This is a serious issue with Jupyter.  If we can't 
export nicely done PDF files, then a key target PDF is unavailable to us. 
 There must be a solution?  I am surprised there is not more of an uproar 
from business and academic users on the current PDF export capability..
