[Catching up on emails as I've been away for the last two months] I haven't really used LDAP much in the past so I'm not too familiar with it's workings, but in principle I think nbgrader *should* be able to work with LDAP. Would you mind opening an issue on the nbgrader repo and I can try to help you debug a bit further there?
