Hello everybody

Since I know that Gordon and I have quite a few friends on this list, I hope
those who don't know us and are not aware of our situation will be just a
little tolerant and feel free to delete this post if they are not interested.
This post is all about Gordon, and it is intended to provide our friends with a
communal update.

Gordon, as you may remember, has spent a long time in residential care, in a
rest bite home to be honest. He was released at the beginning of May and
although he's still suffering significantly with pain which is sometimes
crippling, he is now undertaking mobility rehabilitation so that he can get
around our local area on his own. Ultimately, the plan is to make it so that he
has his independence back again. Something which has been impossible for quite
a few years now.

Today he underwent the most recent and, from what I saw, the most rigorous
route training he has yet done. The route into town, which meant walking about
half a mile each way on his own.

I accompanied the instructor just so I could see what he was doing. he knows
the route, it's just a matter of gaining the confidence needed to negotiate the
environment without relying on others. Today he managed the exercise he was
given really really well, and having done so has given him the most amazing
boost. It's exactly the kind of morale booster he needed and although still
reliant on pain killers to get him through the days, we think that if we help
him to increasingly gain self-confidence again it will only bring positives.

The instructor is very pleased with his progress; and says that he's adapted to
the new "Roll-ball" technique very quickly. Much more so than some people do,
she says.

So, at long long last, we can see light at the end of the tunnel. As long as he
stays positive, as he is at the moment, as long as the pain doesn't drive him
to become negative about everything again, we think that this year might just
see an end to his problems. Certainly just at the moment Gordon is back to the
way I remember him before we married. He's back to laughing, smiling and joking
all the time, as some people on list might have known him.

Speaking personally, I couldn't have asked for any better tonic. After the
trainer left this morning, Gordon took me on one side and although it wasn't
necessary, he apologised to me for all the heartache he said he'd put me
through, and all the difficult times we've had. It wasn't his fault, of course,
and nobody knows that better than I do. But all the same, to hear Gordon say to
me "I think we're going to be alright after all, Lynne" was the best thing
anybody could have given me.

Anyway, Gordon and I have lots of work to do now. He is going to work on our
servers and get them into the situation we want thin to be in. For my part, I
have to go into work. But I do so now with a smile on my face and feeling much
happier than I can remember being for a very very long time. As I told Gordon,
the only thing I want is to see him get out of the problem situation he's been
in for almost 4 years now. I want to see him progress and get back to the way
he used to be. Everything else will just fall into place if that happens.

Sorry for babbling, everybody. I'm just overjoyed at this moment. If anybody
needs a favour of me, now is the time to ask. ;-)

Lynne
