I agree. Of course, they are just doing what millions of years
of evolution built them to do, but when they come in to town or
maybe town comes to them, we have problems.
I told about some neighbors of my parents who had gotten
raccoons in their kitchen. The neighbors went somewhere for a
weekend but left a couple of kitchen windows open as there was
no rain and the windows were on a side of the house that was not
accessible to people because the house was built in to a hill
and those windows were some meters above the ground.
The raccoons must have climbed up the side of the house
and made their way to the windows where they tore out the
screens. Now in the kitchen, they opened cabinet doors and
ripped open sacks of flour and sugar, ate their fill and tracked
the rest over everything else.
They chewed open plastic jars and broke glass ones and
pushed cans or tins of food out of the cabinets on to where ever
they fell.
When the party was over, they left to plunder somebody
else's house or chicken coup.
It could have been worse. They might have turned on the
cook stove, chewed electrical wires or pulled the refrigerator
door open and spoiled all the food there, but it still must have
been a shock to come home and find what they did leave.
