Hello Martin It's good to know that the spirit of Christmas is still alive and kicking. We had a couple of lovely events today which I will write about later. At the moment we are both very tired after a stressful but, by enlarge, enjoyable Christmas day. Boxing day promises to be quiet and uneventful which is most welcome here. As for the white Christmas, it isn't even going to be a threat here. The temperatures are unseasonably warm here, we hit 11 degrees Celsius today and the overnight low is set to be only 4 Degrees Celsius which, I believe, is only about 34 degrees Fahrenheit.
Anyway, I'll write more about our day later. Lynne On 25 Dec 2012, at 13:11, Martin G. McCormick <[email protected]> wrote: A happy Christmas to all on this list. The spirit of the season shows up in interesting ways. Some of you may remember me talking about our neighbors on the other side of the street and how they are good, responsible citizens, the kind of people who help keep the world civilized. Last Saturday, their children brought my father and us little gifts with notes attached wishing us a merry Christmas. On ours, their son who is about 9 or 10, had gone to the trouble to write "Merry Christmas" in Braille as best he could without a slate and stylus on thin writing paper, but he did it. A few of the letters were reversed but I would never say anything about that as he went to a lot of time and trouble according to what his mother told Beverly on Facebook. They have extended family in Texas so probably won't be back until after Christmas, but I will show him a slate and stylus as he must be curious about how it is done. Anyway, my sister and her family are here and we will celebrate Christmas later today. We are actually supposed to get a white Christmas which is rare for Oklahoma as in about a ten per cent chance on any given year. It is hard to say yet what will happen as very slight changes in the movement of weather systems can make the difference between a white Christmas and a soggy mess of wet dead leaves and grey skies. We also are known to have beautiful clear Christmases and bone dry dead leaves and grass on the ground. If this does turn out to be a white Christmas, it will be the best kind where the roads are still open but the ground is white. I hope this is a better year for everyone and lets hope for even better next year. For those in Australia, I guess it is Boxing Day already. Here, Boxing Day isn't quite the same as in the rest of the English world. The boxing occurs in unruly crowds of shoppers fighting over the last discounted Ipad or whatever. It is reportedly the second biggest retail shopping day in America after the Friday following Thanksgiving in November. You have to be nuts to go out the on either of those days. Take care, everyone and be safe.
