We ended up with absolutely 0 trick-or-treaters at our door for
a couple of reasons. Both Beverly and I had caught a really bad
cold that is going around so we didn't think that would be much
of a treat to pass out and there are hardly any kids left on our
street except for the family across the street from us.

I can remember in past years lots of children going up and down
our street but there are fewer families living here now and
more students renting houses that used to be lived in by the
families.

In the cities, various groups of people run haunted
houses where people walk through, seeing and hearing all kinds
of ghoulish things such as skeletons, blood and spiders to name a
few.

In farm country, the hay is cut for the Winter and all
the crops have been harvested so the fields are full of stubble.
Some people cut mazes in to the remaining stubble and kids and
adults can try to find their way out of those mazes and I hear
it is not easy on the really good ones.

Some people have used computers and the GPS system to
cut likenesses of famous people's faces and all sorts of complex
patterns so the folks who show up get their money's worth if
they are ever heard from again. I recall hearing about one maze
which was cut to look like Paul McCartney's face. One of the
ears is reported to be very tricky to find one's way out of.

This time of year is really special what with Halloween,
Thanksgiving, Christmas and New year's Day. Time just flies by
and before you know it, it is mid January and we are in that
long boring slog until the first tornados of March when the
sirens blow and it's not a test.

Actually, tornados have been spotted in Oklahoma during
every month of the year at one time or other but it is quite
unusual between mid October and around mid March.

As you see, it has been two weeks since Halloween. I
kept meaning to send this message several times and got
interrupted or decided to edit it a bit more. This afternoon, I
have it ready to go so sorry there isn't anything really
exciting to relate.
