You'll understand why the subject line is cut off soon.
I heard this story on a BBC Radio 2 newscast and had a
good laugh.
There is a small villiage West of Fairbanks, Alaska in
which people like to welcome the new year by shooting guns in to
the air. This is not that unusual in American small towns. This
year, someone just happened to shoot and sever the one and only
fiber-optic cable carrying internet traffic to and from the
small villiage. The new story was aired on Friday January 10 and
as of that day, the town still did not have internet traffic
restored.
A local official was quoted saying that frase that is
extremely popular right now, "you can't fix stupid."
I am sure that whatever telecommunications company is
responsible for fixing the cable will do so as soon as they can
but this isn't exactly the ideal time of the year for working
outside just below the Arctic Circle. It's really cold and dark.
The Sun rises about ten something in the morning and sets maybe
4 hours later. It is night for around 20 hours out of 24.
