I would love to take on the responsibility of maintaining something like
this. I am an active developer on the Jython project, where I intend to put
such a library to good use. I am also very interested in extending my
involvement in the open source community to more projects than Jython. I
would also like it if this extension was in the direction of OpenJDK.
Maintaining this backport seems to be a perfect match.

Even if there is already a backport, or someone else is elected to maintain
the backport, I would like to be involved in the backport project, because
of the reasons mentioned above.
I am sure more people than me are interested in a backport, so please keep
us updated.
