Good question ... if I run my test scenario manually Tomcat show the session being created and then removed; however, when I run the scenario using JWebUnit the session does not get removed when the test is complete. Odd part about it; the response I get after either "clicking" the logoff link or going to the logoff page is correct (it indicates that the user is not logged on by rendering a LogOn link). Right now I am shelving this problem until I have more time ... thanks for the ideas.
