Nice to see what I was up to a year ago :P

Looks like HttpUnit 1.6 is available now, but have not tried this
combination myself.

Then there is still
http://httpunit.sourceforge.net/doc/faq.html#unsupported if just copying
the libs didn't help.

I suppose you have already gone over all of this, but a summary and
fresh post about this problem doesn't hurt I guess.
I have not been able to spend too much time with jwebunit recently and
never encountered that problem since using the newer httpunit libs.
