Hi Marty,
I suspect the question is better directed towards the OpenLDAP folks :-).
JXplorer tries to read the schema when it connects, which is where it
gets the info about what attributes go with what object classes. If it
can't read the schema, it stumbles on as best it can using the attributes
that it can find already listed for an object class, but it's a pretty
half hearted effort; JX really doesn't work well without the schema.
My guess is that for some reason OpenLDAP is no longer sending the schema;
you can confirm this by doing a 'BER Trace' (Options->Advanced->Logging->
'all + BER Trace') and monitoring the console; when JX connects there should
be a huge wait while it downloads 10s of Kb of schema data...
good luck!

I'm running OpenLDAP 2.2.23 (installed within CDS 2.2) on Red Hat 9 on a
Linux box with an Intel chip and the usual complement of typical stuff.
JXplorer works as expected and is a great tool for managing the contents
of the directory.
I recently turned on the monitor backend by adding two lines to the
slapd.conf file:
backend monitor
database monitor
This turns on the monitoring backend and surfaces a whole collection of
performance data within the context of the directory. When I restart the
directory, JXPlorer ceases to offer me the opportunity to add attributes
not already populated in the directory. Normally, JXPlorer presents all
of the attributes allowed (MUST and MAY) for the ObjectClass in the
Schema. After the monitor backend, when I create a new entry, JXPlorer
presents the attributes that it automatically populates but no others. I
can not find any setting or control that allows me to add attributes. If
I stop the directory and restart it with the monitor backend disabled
(comment out the lines), JXPlorer returns to its previous, normal,
behavior.
Any idea what might be triggering this?
