I've been really lazy, and haven't sorted out the install package
for OS X properly. However it works adequately for me on my 667Mhz
powerbook running OS 10.4 (tiger). The known problems are that the
menu isn't in the apple menu bar, and if you change the look and feel
you can't change it back to aqua later.
try running the shell script from a terminal window with
">jxplorer.sh console" and see if it tells you anything interesting
in the console window... It's strange that it can show the splash
screen, but then fails. It's probably throwing an error, but you're
not seeing it for some reason - so try the console approach
