We need an easier way to get help. It took me ages to find this, only after
sending an email to what was the wrong address (github support) and seeing
their kind reply. And then it took a while to figure out what to do to post a
question. I do NOT use gmail at all, don't understand why I should have to do
so just in order to ask for help on a totally separate non-google application.
If there IS another way, I'd be glad to know what it is... Thanks.

You do not need a gmail account to participate in a Google group. Just create a log-in password for your regular email address.

One reason groups use Google Groups is the infrastructure is already set up, ready to go, and folks can participate either via web browser or via email only. And unlike many email discussion list platforms, an archive of messages is automatically kept and if you log in at groups.google.com you can search that archive to see whether your Q was already answered, before asking it of the group.

hope that helps,
