Hi!

Apologies in advance for my lack of technical language.

Since I updated K-9 last month (or maybe 2 months ago) when I read
emails and delete them etc on my phone, those emails remain unread on my
computer. Bit annoying that every time I view the inbox on my computer
there's a load of unread mails that I have indeed read, deleted, filed
etc. I hadn't changed anything apart from updating from the Play store.

After a web search I tried this:

Menu --> More --> settings --> account setting --> folders change the "move/copy destination
folder" to 'all' (it might have been set to 'all except 2nd Class folders', but you want 'all'). It should
now work. hope this helps. If it doesn't, the other solution was to add "Inbox" to the Prefix when
you configure the incoming server
but this just created a subfolder in your inbox and while it "deleted" it from your
inbox, it still wasn't really moved to a "trash" folder.

But it didn't work.

Thanks for any guidance!

Assuming you are using IMAP, try forcing a manual sync with the server. Then on the desktop client do the same, it might be repair folder, clean up folder, something like that. It may also be useful to "compact" the folder on both your mobile device and your desktop client.
