If the cell signal gets flakey, wouldn't that cause potential re transmit 
overheads/additional traffic ?

(I thought encoding overhead was up to 50%, but that was an uneducated 
guesstimate (and, I'd rather err on side of caution))

fwiw, I use Mobidia's My Data Manger, great utility to keep track of data 
usage, highly recommended
