This might be a know issue, but I was not able to find any reference. When selecting EXTERNAL storage for my downloaded messages, on Samsung S4 the directory "com.fsck.k9" which gets populated is actually in the INTERNAL memory and not in the external SD card.
More precisely, Samsung has two "sdcard" directories: "/storage/sdcard0" (internal emulated sdcard, symbolic link to "/storage/emulated/legacy") and "/storage/extSdCard" which is the actual external SD card.
