PROBLEM PARTLY SOLVED!

I used a trick to solve this problem. Unfortunately K9 does not offer an
option on its own to stop using mobile connections to download emails. But
as I found out, Android 4.4.2 offers a way. You can go into your smartphone
settings (outside K9) and set up a "restriction for background data" for
every application in your telephone. I checked this option for K9 and now
K9 synchronizes my emails every 1 hour while in WIFI networks; but as soon
as I leave WIFI and switch to mobile data, K9 will stop automatic
synchronization. What I like about it: when I open K9, I still can
synchronize manually, i.e. deactivating background data does not mean that
K9 will never function in mobile networks.

Still, the most elegant option would be if K9 had more internal options to
solve this problem. E.g. I would like to adjust in such a way that:
- In WIFI emails will be downloaded completely with all attachments,
irrespective of size.
- In mobile networks K9 will only download emails up to some kilobytes (or
only header).
- When back in WIFI, K9 will complete the download activity for partly
downloaded emails in mobile networks.

Is that possible?

Bye
