I just prefer K9 (or Kaiten), it's my email client of choice (I guess..)

Likewise, I run my own mail server, use gmail as a backup or test purposes.

Only disadvantage I've found is url links don't have clickable links in K9, do 
so, same email, in native email client.

Oh well.
