The action that K-9 takes *should* be based on the error code that it gets from the server it is talking to. If the error is 5xx (the verbiage is irrelevant), that's a permanent error and K-9 shouldn't try again. If the error code is 4xx, that's a transient error and the standards are that the initiating side should fall-back and try again. So, if you can see/capture the error code -- if it's 5xx, then report it as a K-9 bug.
